Rookies & Junior Varsity

Rookies is an 8-session fitness class for 10-12.

ROOKIES SPRING SESSIONS OPEN FOR REGISTRATION: 8 sessions each

Our Rookies class is appropriate for kids aged 9-11, preferably in 4th and 5th grade.

Our Rookies and JV participants will engage in a variety of gymnastics, weightlifting, and cardio-based movements including rowing, running, jumping rope, kettlebell, dumbbell, and barbell exercises, as well as fun fitness games and challenges! Coaches work to help each athlete recognize their own unique talents and strengths, and the opportunities for growth that arise with disciplined practice and consistent effort.

Additionally, we are offering a JV ‘Guided’ Open Gym format for kids 12-14 on Thursdays.  A coach will be present with a lesson plan for athletes seeking help but sessions are flexible to accommodate the needs of specific athletes.  All sessions are at the drop-in rate with no commitment required.  However, we do ask that you register your child for each class in advance of that week’s session so our coaches can plan accordingly.

The  focus for each age group is to develop key movement patterns and body awareness so athlete’s have a head-start on proper form and procedures in a gym setting.  Rookies work towards improved movements and an increase in intensity over the length of the sessions.  JV athletes are assisted in developing strength, coordination, and an increased work capacity through more structured weight training concepts.

Cost: For these Spring sessions, Rookies and JV sessions are open on a drop-in basis at a rate of $27.50.

About Coach Matt:

Hi!  I’m Coach Matt.  I’m a certified CrossFit-OL1 and CrossFit Kids instructor, and former competitive cyclist. I’m excited to welcome aspiring junior athletes to our classes.  I attended my first CrossFit class in 2015 on a whim and have been participating in it as my main form of exercise ever since.  I love the constant challenges it provides and I find the community around it to be supportive and motivating.  I am also the proud father of Van, my 11-year-old son.  He has been training with me since he was six, and he teaches me how to be a better coach as much as I teach him how to be a better athlete.  When we’re not engaging in CrossFit, you’ll find us watching or playing lacrosse, mountain biking, or hiking. I look forward to helping your budding athlete build fitness, confidence, and self-esteem.

About Coach Andy:

Coach Andy here! I’m a CrossFit L-1, CrossFit Kids and Spartan SGX certified coach and very much enjoy working with the young athletes in the Rookies program. It is a huge highlight of my week and I look forward to welcoming our next class of participants!

As a father of two, Annabelle (12) and Chiara (9), I want to teach children (and all our adults) that fitness can mean different things to each of us and that there are multiple paths towards a common goal of living healthier and stronger lives. Fitness is a lifetime journey and everyone can participate!

About Coach Zac:

As the newest member of the Rookies coaching staff I am happy to have the privilege of working with your young athlete.  Crossfit is not only one of my favorite activities, it also helps prepare me for life as an active father to Ariana (10) and for my job as a first responder.  The movement patterns and flexibility that this path of fitness shows will teach your athlete how to workout intelligently, show them how to move properly, and develop perseverance even when it gets tough.  I am excited to meet this session’s crew and get to work.
