Second Wind always has been and always will be an open and inclusive community. We stand for equality and justice and invite you to two events to show your support for a more unified America.

Friday, June 5.

There will be no 5pm Zoom WOD. Instead, we invite all to attend the 16th Street Vigil. Details from the organizers below:

The All Souls Unitarian Church and the Christ Lutheran Church are organizing a vigil for George Floyd along 16th Street tomorrow, Friday June 5th, from 5:00pm – 6:00 pm. Houses of worship along 16th St are encouraged to ring their bells at 5:45 for 8 minutes and 42 seconds – the amount of time that Derek Chauvin held his knee on George Floyd’s neck, ultimately suffocating him. We hope you all will come out and join us along 16th Street (with masks and a good 6 feet apart:). Perhaps our friends and neighbors can fill the sidewalks all the way from the White House to Silver Spring! Please spread the word far and wide!

What: Vigil for George Floyd
When: Friday, June 5th, 5-6pm (bell ringing at 5:45pm)
Where: Along 16th Street
Why: Help demand justice for George Floyd and an end to racism while honoring his memory

If inclined, you can rsvp via the original organizers’ google doc here, if you’d like, or share my post on Facebook. And if any of you have contacts at houses of worship on or near 16th Street, please encourage them to ring their bells tomorrow at 5:45pm! Thank you all.

Saturday, June 6, 10am

Outdoor WOD: “Big Floyd” – we will join CrossFits around the country in doing the workout posted below. Scaled versions will be available.

Where: Meet at the soccer field at the corner of 16th and Kennedy. We will use the space furthest from the tennis courts.  We will social distance from each other.

Equipment: The workout calls for weight-lifting movements, so bring any equipment you have. I will also bring all the barbells from the gym, without weights: first come-first served with priority to members. There are burpees in the grass…bring your own mat or towel if you want. Water bottle.

Masks are optional but encouraged while setting up, going over the workout and clean up. I encourage you to carry a small hand towel when you run to cover your face as you pass others. We will mark out several routes so not everyone runs in the same place.

For those who can’t make it on sight, Holly will be hosting the same WOD on zoom, also at 10am.
